Acetone 99.5% or Propanone

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Acetone 99.5% or Propanone or Dimethyl ketone
  • Brand: QReC (Product Code: QR-A1084-1-2500)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) featuring a certified chemical purity of 99.5 percent or higher. Manufactured and quality-verified in strict compliance with QReC global laboratory specifications. Strictly regulated to maintain ultra-low ppm levels of evaporation residue, moisture content, free acidity, aldehydes, and heavy metals. This high-purity profile ensures no residual organic films on laboratory glassware and eliminates background interferences in analytical testing. Packaged in a heavy-duty amber glass bottle for maximum chemical integrity and light protection.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless, highly mobile liquid with a characteristic sweet, pungent odor. Extremely volatile at room temperature. Highly flammable liquid and vapor with a very low flash point.
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water and virtually all organic solvents, including ethanol, methanol, diethyl ether, chloroform, and oils.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as a primary polar aprotic solvent for extracting organic matrices, lipids, and botanical active ingredients in analytical research. Widely applied as an efficient, residue-free rinsing solvent for rapid drying of laboratory glassware. Frequently used as a mobile phase component in thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Serves as a reliable protein precipitation agent in biochemistry sample preparation workflows, and is commonly combined with dry ice to prepare low-temperature cooling baths for specialized chemical synthesis.

Safety & Hazards (Flammable)

  • Classification: Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.
  • Health Risks: Direct ocular contact causes rapid, severe stinging irritation, redness, and lacrimation. Repeated dermal contact defats the skin, resulting in dry, cracked tissue. Inhalation of concentrated vapors irritates the respiratory tract and suppresses the central nervous system, inducing headaches, lightheadedness, nausea, or acute fatigue.
  • First Aid Measures: Flush eyes or skin immediately with abundant flowing water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated garments. If vapors are inhaled causing dizziness, move the individual to fresh air promptly.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Highly Flammable and Extremely Volatile Solvent. Vapors can migrate along surfaces and ignite at distant ignition sources. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed QReC amber glass bottle inside a dedicated flammable chemical safety cabinet. Keep in a cool, dry, and excellently ventilated zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius), sheltered from direct sunlight. Keep strictly segregated from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces, static discharge, and strong oxidizers (such as nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and peroxides).
  • Precautions: Standard laboratory PPE is mandatory, including solvent-resistant gloves, splash-proof safety goggles, and a protective lab coat. Always handle and dispense inside a properly functioning laboratory fume hood to prevent vapor accumulation.
