Ammonia solution 28% or Concentrated ammonium hydroxide or Aqueous ammonia 28%

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Ammonia solution 28% or Concentrated ammonium hydroxide or Aqueous ammonia 28%
  • Brand: QReC (Product Code: QR-A5023-1-2501)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) featuring an exceptional certified assay of 28 to 30 percent ammonia (weight/weight). Manufactured and quality-verified under strict QReC global laboratory specifications. Rigorously regulated to maintain ultra-low ppm thresholds of non-volatile residue, carbonate, chloride, sulfate, phosphate, and trace heavy metals (such as iron, lead, copper, zinc, and nickel). This premium, particle-free alkaline reagent guarantees high stoichiometric precision and eliminates background interferences in complexometric analysis. Packaged in a heavy-duty, chemically resistant container engineered to safely withstand elevated internal vapor pressures.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless liquid with an intensely suffocating, sharp, pungent ammoniacal odor. Readily releases copious dense fumes of ammonia gas upon opening. Strongly alkaline liquid with aggressive corrosive effects on biological tissue and light metals.
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water; freely miscible with polar organic solvents such as lower aliphatic alcohols.
  • Key Use: Widely utilized for preparing concentrated ammonium buffer systems in chemical, chromatographic, and biochemical assays requiring high buffer capacity. Extensively applied as a high-potency complexing agent in quantitative inorganic analysis to dissolve, separate, and quantify transition metal ions (such as copper, silver, nickel, cadmium, and zinc). Frequently employed as a strong alkaline neutralizing agent in precise quantitative analytical methods. Used in organic synthesis as a reactive ammonolysis reagent and catalyst, and applied in specialized analytical screening tests.

Safety & Hazards (Critical, Corrosive & Toxic)

  • Classification: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Causes serious eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. Harmful if swallowed. Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
  • Health Risks: Concentrated vapors immediately attack the moist tissues of the eyes and respiratory system, causing severe burning sensations, lacrimation, coughing, and asphyxiation risks. Direct eye contact triggers instantaneous and catastrophic corrosive injury, corneal opacification, and permanent blindness. Dermal exposure produces deep chemical burns, necrotic blistering, and severe localized ulceration. Inhalation of dense fumes causes laryngospasms, chemical bronchitis, and life-threatening acute pulmonary edema. Ingestion causes destructive caustic perforation of the mouth, esophagus, and gastrointestinal tract.
  • First Aid Measures: Immediately flush affected eyes or skin with an abundant stream of clean flowing water for at least 15 to 20 minutes while stripping all contaminated garments. In case of inhalation, rapidly transfer the victim to fresh air. If accidentally swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting; thoroughly rinse mouth, administer water if conscious, and seek immediate, urgent emergency medical attention.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Extremely High Vapor Pressure and Aggressive Alkaline Corrosive. High ambient heat quickly causes dangerous gas over-pressurization inside the container. Must be kept in its original, tightly closed QReC container maintained in an upright orientation. Store in a dedicated, dark, cool, and excellently ventilated chemical store at controlled temperatures (ideally below 25 degrees Celsius). Keep strictly segregated from strong mineral acids, strong oxidizers, halogens (such as chlorine, bromine, and iodine), and heavy metal salts.
  • Precautions: Comprehensive specialized PPE is mandatory, including heavy chemical-resistant gloves, splash-proof goggles or a full-face shield, and a protective lab coat. Handle exclusively and strictly within a certified, properly functioning laboratory fume hood. Always loosen the container cap slowly and carefully pointed away from personnel to vent accumulated internal ammonia vapor pressure before opening completely.
