Ethylene glycol (1,2-Ethanediol)

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Ethylene glycol (1,2-Ethanediol)
  • Brand: Kemaus (Product Code: KA-210)
  • Grade: Laboratory Grade (Lab Grade) with an ultra-high premium purity of 99.9 percent. Strictly manufactured under Kemaus standards to ensure high chemical stability and dependable performance. Excellently suited for academic science laboratories, organic synthesis, cooling system research, and industrial formulation development.
  • Physical Properties: Odorless, clear, colorless, syrupy viscous liquid with a sweet taste (highly toxic, do not taste under any circumstances).
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water, alcohol, acetone, and glycerin.
  • Key Use: Widely utilized as an industrial-strength antifreeze and coolant additive in laboratory equipment chillers to depress the freezing point of water and prevent system crystallization. Used as a high-purity, high-boiling solvent in advanced organic chemical synthesis requiring sustained thermal stability. Also functions as a cryoprotective agent in specific biochemical applications and a key structural precursor in polymer and polyester resin research.

Safety & Hazards (Critical)

  • Classification: Harmful if swallowed. May cause damage to organs (Kidneys) through prolonged or repeated exposure if ingested.
  • Health Risks: Due to its sweet profile, accidental ingestion is a major hazard. Once ingested, it metabolizes into oxalic acid, triggering severe central nervous system depression and acute, lethal kidney failures. Vapors from heated material may cause minor physical irritation to eyes and respiratory tracts.
  • First Aid Measures: If swallowed and the victim is conscious, rinse the mouth thoroughly with plenty of water and seek immediate medical emergency evaluation. In case of skin or eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Hygroscopic material. It readily absorbs ambient moisture and water vapor from the surrounding air. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed Kemaus container. Keep in a cool, strictly dry, and well-ventilated chemical storage zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep away from strong oxidizing agents and strong acids.
  • Precautions: Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory chemical gloves, safety glasses, and a protective lab coat. Strictly prohibit food or drink consumption in areas where this chemical is handled.
