n-Pentane 99% or Normal Pentane or Pentane

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: n-Pentane 99% or Normal Pentane or Pentane
  • Brand: QReC (Product Code: QR-N6015-1-2501)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) featuring a high certified chemical purity of 99 percent or higher. Produced and distilled under strict QReC global laboratory standards. Tightly regulated to ensure exceptionally low ppm thresholds of evaporation residue, guaranteeing zero oily film or particulate artifacts upon solvent dry-down. Strictly controlled for minimal moisture content, sulfur compounds, free benzene, aromatic hydrocarbons, and trace heavy metals. Packaged in a heavy-duty amber glass bottle for maximum chemical integrity and light protection.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless, highly volatile, mobile liquid with a characteristic light petroleum or gasoline-like odor. Characterized by a very low boiling point (approximately 36 degrees Celsius). Extremely flammable liquid and vapor with an exceedingly low flash point; vapors are significantly denser than air and can flow across floor surfaces to remote ignition points.
  • Solubility: Insoluble and immiscible with water (floats as a distinct upper layer due to very low specific gravity); completely miscible in all proportions with common organic solvents including ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, chloroform, and benzene; high solvency for non-polar lipids, oils, and hydrocarbons.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as an essential low-boiling non-polar extraction solvent for isolating volatile organic compounds, essential oils, natural aromas, and thermally sensitive phytochemicals, allowing solvent removal under gentle, low-temperature evaporation without thermal decomposition. Widely applied as a non-polar eluent or mobile phase component in thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and preparative column chromatography. Routinely used for preparing analytical samples in Gas Chromatography (GC) workflows. Commonly employed in organic synthesis as a reaction medium, for recrystallizing non-polar compounds, and functions as an instant-drying, residue-free solvent for precision apparatus cleaning.

Safety & Hazards (Critical, Extremely Flammable & Harmful)

  • Classification: Extremely flammable liquid and vapor. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
  • Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers transient stinging irritation, conjunctival redness, and watering. Dermal contact rapidly dissolves protective natural skin lipids, leading to erythema, cracking, and localized dermatitis. Inhalation of concentrated vapors depresses the central nervous system, inducing headaches, dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, loss of coordination, or acute narcosis. Ingestion accompanied by chemical aspiration into the respiratory tract causes destructive, life-threatening chemical pneumonitis and acute pulmonary edema.
  • First Aid Measures: Immediately flush affected eyes or skin with plenty of continuous flowing water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. In case of inhalation, rapidly transfer the individual to fresh air. If accidentally swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting due to critical pulmonary aspiration hazards; seek immediate, urgent emergency medical attention.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Extremely Flammable and Low-Boiling Volatile Solvent. Low boiling point (around 36 degrees Celsius) creates elevated internal vapor pressure under ambient warmth. Must be preserved in its original, tightly sealed QReC amber glass bottle inside an approved flammable liquid safety cabinet. Store in a clean, dry, cool, and excellently ventilated storage zone at controlled temperatures (ideally below 20 to 25 degrees Celsius), sheltered from direct sunlight. Keep strictly segregated from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces, static electrical discharge, and strong oxidizing agents.
  • Precautions: Standard laboratory PPE is mandatory, including solvent-resistant gloves, splash-proof safety goggles, and a protective lab coat. Handle exclusively and strictly within a properly functioning laboratory fume hood to prevent flammable vapor accumulation. Ground and bond apparatus during volume transfers to avoid static discharge.
