Benzoic acid

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Benzoic acid (Benzenecarboxylic acid)
  • Brand: Kemaus (Product Code: KA-926)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) with an exceptional premium purity of 99.9 percent or higher. Meticulously manufactured and verified under Kemaus premium laboratory quality control standards to guarantee ultra-low trace background of heavy metals, chlorides, and sulfates. Possessing a highly stable and well-defined heat of combustion, it is widely trusted for high-precision analytical applications.
  • Physical Properties: Faint, characteristic pleasant odor, white crystalline powder, or white needle-like crystals. It undergoes sublimation easily upon heating.
  • Solubility: Slightly soluble in water at room temperature (solubility increases significantly in hot water); readily soluble in ethanol, ether, and chloroform.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as a primary chemical standard for calibrating bomb calorimeters and determining precise heat capacity standards in thermodynamic laboratories. Widely applied as a high-purity organic reactant and precursor in organic synthesis for manufacturing benzoate esters and chemical intermediates. Also functions as a reference material for analyzing antimicrobial preservatives in food and pharmaceutical R&D, and used in teaching labs for sublimation-recrystallization demonstrations.

Safety & Hazards (Critical)

  • Classification: Harmful if swallowed. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye damage. May cause damage to organs (Lungs) through prolonged or repeated exposure if inhaled.
  • Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers immediate severe stinging irritation, watering, redness, and potential corneal injury. Skin contact results in localized irritation and dry redness. Inhalation of fine airborne dust particles aggressively irritates the upper respiratory tract, inducing severe coughing, sneezing, and potential long-term pulmonary hazard.
  • First Aid Measures: Flush affected eyes or skin immediately with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. If inhaled, move the victim to fresh air immediately. Seek medical evaluation if irritation persists.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Volatile and Sublimable Solid. It can slowly lose mass via chemical sublimation if stored in open or warm conditions. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed Kemaus container. Keep in a cool, strictly dry, and well-ventilated dedicated chemical storage area at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep completely away from direct heat sources, open flames, and strong oxidizing agents.
  • Precautions: Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory chemical gloves, safety glasses, and a fine particulate dust respirator. Minimize dust cloud generation during daily operations.
