Dichloromethane (DCM / Methylene Chloride)

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Dichloromethane (DCM / Methylene Chloride)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade), featuring high purity ( 99.5%). Packed in 2.5 L containers. It offers low water content and minimal evaporation residue, essential for high-precision laboratory standards.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless, highly volatile liquid with a sweetish, chloroform-like odor. It is denser than water.
  • Key Use: A powerful solvent for liquid-liquid extraction, organic synthesis, and as a mobile phase component in chromatography. Also used for high-efficiency degreasing.

Safety & Hazards (Critical)

  • Classification: Suspected of causing cancer (Category 2). Harmful if swallowed or inhaled. Causes skin and serious eye irritation.
  • Health Risks: Vapors cause Central Nervous System (CNS) depression, leading to dizziness, nausea, and headaches. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause damage to organs (Liver, Kidneys).
  • First Aid Measures: Immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If inhaled, move the victim to fresh air and seek medical attention immediately.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated, and dark area. Keep containers tightly closed. Be cautious of pressure buildup inside the bottle due to its low boiling point ( 40 °C ).
  • Precautions: Full PPE is mandatory, including solvent-resistant gloves and safety goggles. Use strictly within a fume hood. Avoid contact with certain plastics and rubber as DCM is a strong solvent that can dissolve them.
