Ethanol or Ethyl alcohol

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Ethanol or Ethyl alcohol or Absolute alcohol
  • Brand: RCI LABSCAN (Product Code: LA-AR1069-G2.5L)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) featuring an exceptionally high premium purity of 99.9 percent (Absolute Alcohol). Manufactured and quality-verified under RCI LABSCAN strict global laboratory parameters to ensure the virtual absence of moisture content and exceptionally low ppm thresholds of non-volatile matter, free acidity, and organic impurities. This highly refined profile eliminates potential chemical side reactions and guarantees clear, dependable baselines for high-precision quantitative analysis.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless, highly volatile, non-viscous liquid with a distinctive, characteristic pleasant alcoholic odor. Volatile vapors are highly flammable.
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water and common organic solvents including methanol, acetone, ether, and chloroform without phase separation.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as a primary polar solvent for extracting and isolating active target compounds, essential oils, and phytochemical complexes in natural product research laboratories. Commonly applied as a clean solvent baseline for formulating laboratory reagents, reference standards, and performance dilutions. Used extensively as a powerful dehydrating and fixing agent in histology and pathology setups for sample slide preparations, and functions as an effective reaction medium in advanced organic chemical synthesis.

Safety & Hazards

  • Classification: Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Causes serious eye irritation.
  • Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers immediate stinging irritation, watering, and temporary tissue redness. Prolonged dermal exposure strips natural skin lipids, leading to minor localized dryness. Inhalation of concentrated volatile vapors may induce mild dizziness, headaches, or transient upper respiratory tract irritation.
  • First Aid Measures: Flush affected eyes or skin immediately with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. If vapors are inhaled, move the victim to fresh air. Seek medical evaluation if irritation persists.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Highly Flammable and Volatile Liquid. Vapors can migrate and easily ignite near open ignition sources. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed RCI LABSCAN amber glass container inside a dedicated chemical safety cabinet for flammable liquids. Keep in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep strictly isolated from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces, direct sunlight, and strong oxidizing agents.
  • Precautions: Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory gloves, safety glasses, and a protective lab coat. Avoid dispensing near thermal environments, and secure the container cap tightly immediately after each use to prevent the absolute alcohol from absorbing ambient atmospheric humidity.
