Hydrochloric acid or Muriatic acid

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Hydrochloric acid or Muriatic acid
  • Brand: RCI LABSCAN (Product Code: LA-AR1107-P2.5L)
  • Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade) with a certified premium concentration of 37 percent. Manufactured and certified under RCI LABSCAN strict global laboratory parameters to ensure exceptionally low ppm levels of heavy metals, arsenic, iron, free chlorine, sulfates, and sulfites. Packaged in a specialized, heavy-duty polyethylene bottle (PE Bottle) to eliminate chemical silica leaching from standard glass substrates, maintaining premium matrix integrity and absolute accuracy for quantitative analysis.
  • Physical Properties: Odorless, clear, colorless, fuming liquid that releases pungent, highly irritating acid vapors when exposed to moist air. It exhibits extremely potent corrosive profiles against metallic materials and living tissues.
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water and alcohol, liberating significant exothermic thermal energy upon dilution.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as a primary foundational acid to prepare accurate volumetric standard solutions (such as 0.1N Hydrochloric acid) for acid-base titrations. Commonly applied as a precise pH regulator to lower pH levels in sensitive chemical systems. Used extensively as a powerful digestion reagent for breaking down soil, mineral, rock, and metal samples during sample preparation workflows prior to AAS or ICP advanced spectroscopic determination. Functions as an effective reactant in organic synthesis and qualitative identification assays.

Safety & Hazards (Critical & Corrosive)

  • Classification: May be corrosive to metals. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. Harmful if inhaled.
  • Health Risks: Direct tissue or ocular contact triggers immediate, intense chemical burns, deep tissue necrosis, and potential permanent blindness. Inhalation of its airborne fuming fumes aggressively corrodes the upper respiratory tract, inducing violent choking, coughing, severe throat soreness, or acute pulmonary edema. Ingestion causes immediate, catastrophic corrosive destruction to gastrointestinal membranes.
  • First Aid Measures: In case of contact, immediately flush affected eyes or skin with a continuous stream of flowing water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated garments. If vapors are inhaled, promptly move the victim to fresh air. Seek urgent medical emergency evaluation immediately.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Highly Corrosive and Aggressive Fuming Acid. Vapors can migrate readily and degrade surrounding metals or equipment. Must be stored in its original, acid-resistant, tightly sealed RCI LABSCAN PE bottle inside a dedicated corrosive safety storage cabinet with a reliable ventilation exhaust system. Keep in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated storage zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep strictly isolated from strong bases, active metals, flammable solvents, cyanides, and sulfides (to prevent the hazardous liberation of lethal hydrogen cyanide or hydrogen sulfide gases).
  • Precautions: Comprehensive specialized PPE is mandatory, including thick chemical-resistant safety gloves, splash-proof chemical goggles, a full protective face shield, and an inorganic acid gas respirator mask. Handle exclusively and strictly within a properly functioning laboratory fume hood to completely contain fumes and eliminate respiratory exposure.
