Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Isopropyl alcohol or 2-Propanol or Isopropanol or IPA
  • Brand: RCI LABSCAN (Product Code: LA-LC1162-G2.5L)
  • Grade: HPLC Grade (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Grade). Meticulously manufactured and purified under RCI LABSCAN strict global laboratory quality control standards to guarantee maximum chemical purity and ultimate UV transparency. It features exceptionally low UV cut-off absorbance thresholds and ultra-low levels of non-volatile matter, water content, and free acidity. This highly refined profile prevents baseline noise drift, eliminates ghost peaks, protects sensitive stationary phases from degradation, and delivers absolute chromatographic accuracy.
  • Physical Properties: Clear, colorless, highly volatile, non-viscous liquid with a distinctive, sharp alcoholic odor. Volatile vapors are highly flammable.
  • Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water and common organic solvents including methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, and ether without phase separation.
  • Key Use: Heavily utilized as a premium mobile phase component or eluent modifier in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UHPLC setups for separating mid-to-high polarity chemical targets and pharmaceuticals. Commonly applied as a clean solvent matrix for preparing primary reference standard mixtures and highly sensitive sample extractions. Used extensively as a specialized solvent for washing, flushing, and conditioning HPLC columns to eliminate residual contaminants, and functions as an effective tool in molecular biology for nucleic acid isolation.

Safety & Hazards

  • Classification: Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness.
  • Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers immediate stinging irritation, watering, and temporary tissue redness. Prolonged dermal exposure strips natural skin lipids, leading to minor localized dryness. Inhalation of concentrated volatile vapors suppresses the central nervous system, inducing headaches, dizziness, nausea, or acute drowsiness.
  • First Aid Measures: Flush affected eyes or skin immediately with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. If vapors are inhaled, move the victim to fresh air. Seek medical evaluation if irritation or symptoms persist.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Highly Flammable and Volatile Solvent. Vapors can migrate and easily ignite near open ignition sources. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed RCI LABSCAN amber glass container inside a dedicated chemical safety cabinet for flammable liquids. Keep in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep strictly isolated from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces, direct sunlight, and strong oxidizing agents.
  • Precautions: Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory chemical gloves, safety glasses, and a protective lab coat. Avoid dispensing near high-thermal environments, and secure the container cap tightly immediately after use to prevent the premium solvent from absorbing ambient atmospheric humidity or impurities.
