Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate

Product Overview & Quality

  • Product Name: Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (Iron II sulfate heptahydrate)
  • Brand: Kemaus (Product Code: KA-227)
  • Grade: Laboratory Grade (Lab Grade) featuring an exceptionally high premium purity of 99.5 percent. Manufactured under Kemaus standard laboratory quality control protocols to ensure uniform physical properties and minimal background contaminants. Excellently suited for general chemistry experiments, environmental testing, wastewater treatment modeling, and botanical nutrient research.
  • Physical Properties: Odorless, pale green to blue-green crystalline granules or crystals. It readily oxidizes and develops a yellowish-brown surface coat when exposed to air.
  • Solubility: Highly soluble in water, yielding a pale green solution (which slowly turns turbid brown upon extended exposure to atmospheric oxygen due to chemical oxidation); practically insoluble in alcohol.
  • Key Use: Widely utilized as a core analytical reagent in chemistry laboratories, notably functioning as the primary agent in the classic “Brown Ring Test” for identifying nitrate ions in samples. Commonly applied as a dependable reducing agent in organic and inorganic workflows. Used heavily in environmental laboratories for treating simulated wastewater to complex and precipitate phosphates or heavy metals, and serves as an ultra-pure iron nutrient source in agricultural R&D and plant tissue cultures.

Safety & Hazards (Critical)

  • Classification: Harmful if swallowed. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation.
  • Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers immediate stinging irritation, watering, and localized tissue redness. Skin contact results in minor localized irritation or dry discomfort. Ingestion of substantial quantities deliver acute iron toxicity, heavily irritating gastrointestinal membranes and causing severe nausea, vomiting, or internal distress.
  • First Aid Measures: Flush affected eyes or skin immediately with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. If swallowed, rinse mouth thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Air and Moisture Sensitive. It absorbs environmental humidity and reacts readily with atmospheric oxygen (Oxidation), converting the active blue-green divalent ferrous crystals into an inactive yellowish-brown trivalent ferric state. Must be stored in its original, tightly sealed Kemaus container with an airtight seal. Keep in a cool, strictly dry, and well-ventilated chemical safety zone at stable room temperature (below 30 degrees Celsius). Keep completely isolated from strong oxidizing agents and high humidity.
  • Precautions: Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory chemical gloves, safety glasses, and a particulate dust mask. Secure the container cap tightly immediately after each volumetric dispensing to prevent air exposure.
