Hydrochloric acid 0.1N (0.1 mol/L) solution
Product Overview & Quality
- Product Name: Hydrochloric acid 0.1N (0.1 mol/L) solution or Standard volumetric hydrochloric acid solution
- Brand: QReC (Product Code: QR-H8052-0-1000)
- Grade: Certified Volumetric Standard Solution (AR Grade) precisely formulated from high-purity analytical grade hydrochloric acid and ultra-pure deionized water. Standardized and calibrated under strict QReC global laboratory specifications at a controlled reference temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. Directly traceable to certified Primary Standard Reference Materials from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST Traceable). Features a tightly controlled volumetric normality factor typically within 0.999 to 1.001, printed on the certificate of analysis and batch label. Provides instant, ready-to-use accuracy, eliminating cumbersome dilution, boiling, and preliminary standardization steps. Packaged in a heavy-duty, chemically inert polymer bottle designed to prevent concentration drift and ensure airtight storage.
- Physical Properties: Clear, colorless liquid with practically odorless to faint acidic scent. Fume-free under ambient conditions. Acidic liquid matrix; non-combustible.
- Solubility: Completely miscible in all proportions with water; freely miscible with polar organic solvents such as alcohols.
- Key Use: Heavily utilized as a ready-to-use primary titrant in acid-base quantitative volumetric titrations for determining alkalinity and alkaline compounds (including sodium hydroxide, carbonates, bicarbonates, and amines) across pharmaceutical, food, environmental, and chemical industries. Extensively applied as the standard acid titrant in the back-titration or direct titration step of the Kjeldahl method for total nitrogen and crude protein evaluation. Routinely used for precise pH adjustment and buffer preparation in sensitive clinical, biochemical, and chromatographic analyses. Serves as a standard verification solution for monitoring pH electrode responsiveness, and functions across routine industrial quality control (QC) and academic research (R&D) protocols.
Safety & Hazards (Mild Corrosive & Irritant)
- Classification: May be corrosive to metals. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation.
- Health Risks: Direct eye contact triggers stinging irritation, conjunctival redness, and lacrimation. Prolonged or repeated skin exposure may cause mild erythema, localized dryness, and irritation. Inhalation of generated aerosols or mists causes transient upper respiratory tract tickling and mild coughing. Ingestion produces mild burning sensations in the mouth, pharynx, and esophagus, accompanied by gastrointestinal discomfort and nausea.
- First Aid Measures: Immediately flush affected eyes or skin with plenty of continuous flowing water for at least 10 to 15 minutes while stripping contaminated clothing. In case of mist inhalation, move the individual to fresh air promptly. If accidentally swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting; thoroughly rinse mouth with water, drink water, and seek medical advice if discomfort persists.
Handling & Storage
- Storage: Calibrated Standard Volumetric Solution. Sensitive to evaporation and thermal fluctuation, which alter the verified normality factor. Must be preserved in its original, tightly closed QReC plastic container. Store in a clean, dry, cool, and well-ventilated dedicated chemical store at controlled temperatures (between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius), sheltered from direct sunlight and thermal sources. Keep strictly segregated from strong bases, strong oxidizers, and reactive metals.
- Precautions: Standard laboratory PPE is mandatory, including protective chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and a lab coat. “Critical Volumetric Rule: Never pour unused portions of the solution from beakers or burettes back into the primary container to prevent cross-contamination and invalidate the certified titer factor.” Seal cap immediately after dispensing.
