Safety & Hazards

  • Classification: Highly Toxic if swallowed, in contact with skin, or inhaled. It is also Corrosive and causes serious eye damage.
  • Critical Danger: Do NOT mix with strong acids. Contact with acids releases Hydrogen Fluoride ($HF$) gas, which is extremely toxic and corrosive.
  • Health Risks: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Chronic exposure may lead to fluorosis, affecting bones and teeth.
  • First Aid Measures: Immediately flush affected skin or eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek urgent medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and seek immediate medical care.

Handling & Storage

  • Storage: Must be kept in a tightly sealed, airtight container due to its deliquescent nature (readily absorbs moisture from the air). Store in a cool, dry place, strictly away from acids and oxidizing agents.
  • Precautions: Wear comprehensive PPE, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and a dust mask. Always handle within a fume hood.
