Sodium hydroxide pellets (Caustic Soda)
Product Overview & Quality
- Product Name: Sodium hydroxide pellets (Caustic Soda)
- Grade: Analytical Reagent (AR Grade), featuring high purity ( 97%) with strictly limited impurities like carbonates and heavy metals.
- Physical Properties: Odorless, white opaque pellets.
- Solubility: Readily soluble in water; highly exothermic dissolution (releases significant heat).
- Key Use: Used for preparing standard volumetric solutions, pH adjustment, and as a critical reagent in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry.
Safety & Hazards (Critical)
- Classification: Severely Corrosive (Category 1). Causes severe skin burns and serious eye damage.
- Health Risks: Direct contact causes immediate tissue damage. Eye contact is extremely dangerous and can lead to permanent loss of vision.
- Chemical Warning: When dissolving, always add pellets to water gradually (never water to pellets) to manage the intense heat generated and prevent splashing.
- First Aid Measures: Immediately flush affected eyes or skin with plenty of flowing water for at least 15-30 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention.
Handling & Storage
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in tightly sealed high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers. Deliquescent; it rapidly absorbs moisture and from the atmosphere.
- Precautions: Comprehensive PPE is mandatory, including chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles. Avoid using glass stoppers, as they can become permanently fused due to the caustic nature of the substance.
